Merino Kids was founded by Amie Nilsson in New Zealand in 2003.  It is now an international, award winning, textile company specialising in using 100% natural fibres, for the design of newborn, baby, infant and toddler sleepwear.

Merino Kids make garments using 100% natural superfine, bleach-free merino, 100% natural organic cotton and nickel-free zips and domes/poppers.

We especially love their Merino wool, because though it is warm and breathable - as always with wool - its fine knit give it the feel of soft cotton, thus giving children the best material to live and sleep in!

You'll be glad to know that Merino Kids' superfine merino top is spun, woven and finished in India in a sweatshop-free environment.

When looking at Merino Kids' clothes, it's easy to see that they are created by a mother with care for children and practicality in mind.  Design features such as fold-over scratch mitts, fold-over feet, cross-over necklines and elastic backs are brilliant for easy dressing and changing.

Environmentally friendly packaging is also something Merino Kids care about, so they use 100% cotton organdy fabric and recycled tissue paper.

These things make Merino Kids a good fit for us, and we're happy to be stocking them.  We hope you enjoy their wraps, sleeping bags and clothing too.

Alkena and Biodynamic Organic Silk

All-silk Long-Sleeved Baby-body

So, what's biodynamic, organic silk all about?  And what are its benefits to you and the world?

Near ChengDu in China is a biodynamic regeneration project, bringing traditional silk-making skills back to the region. We were very excited to discover this project, and their excellent quality silk clothes for babies and women, which are certified as organic by the IMO (Institute for Market Ecology).

There are several reasons why we chose this range. First of all, silk is excellent for the skin - it's gentle, insulating and breathable, which is why it's been considered for generations and across cultures as the ideal next-to-the-skin layer. So for babies, it's absolutely wonderful! (more…)

Natural, Beautiful, Practical and Durable

Dungarees in Organic Merino Wool by Disana

Here at Cambridge Baby, we fell in love with Disana! In fact, it is one of the manufacturers we stocked right from Cambridge Baby's launch.

Disana's organic Merino wool knitwear is second to none!

Wonderful jumpers, leggings and dungarees, as well as their classic boiled wool children's clothes - discover them all here.

The clothes are beautiful but they are also practical and durable - clearly designed with children in mind. We know from our experience and that of our customers that Disana clothes get handed down from one child to the next when they grow out of them. (more…)

Organic wool and animal welfare

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

DisanasSheepDoes organic certification take into account animal welfare? or does it simply mean free from chemicals?

One of our customers recently asked us this, and the answer is yes - organic wool does ensure high standards of animal welfare.

The majority of organic clothes are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard, GOTS.   GOTS includes the manufacturing of the textile; however, in order for clothes to be GOTS-certified the fibre itself (wool) has to be certified by an organic certification body like the Soil Association.

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

It's easy to use Disana cloth Nappies!   This may look like a lot of steps, but we've broken it down to make it easy to follow.  Once you have got the hang of it you'll be able to do it super-fast.

Step 1

To use the Disana nappy is very simple. Spread out the knitted nappy on the changing mat. Fold the narrow front part back to the ties. Now place the brushed cotton liner or silk liner on top of the nappy.

Hunting down organic clothes at Bubble London :)

Sunday, June 16th, 2013
Rosy and I have just come back from Britain's loveliest trade show for children's clothes - Bubble, held in Islington. We always go to find new brands that work for us - soft wool or organic cotton, well-made lovely baby and children's clothing.  We always want genuine ethical commitment and a bonus is...  enthusiasm!  If there is someone you think we should look out for or stock next year, let us know below. It was good to see some of our favourite British ethical companies - hello Pigeon, Kite, Piccalilly and Frugi!  And a welcome addition to the British scene - Sense Organics is launching here good and proper (though we got in first and are already stocking them!). There was very little wool there but we were delighted with the made-down-the-road quirky designs of Donna Wilson - cushions, toys and blankets in gorgeously soft British lambswool. http://www.donnawilson.com/ At the moment they're not selling to online stores but if you'd like to see them on these pages, let them know 🙂 Fun, aren't they?!  I'll leave you with one more.... www.donnawilson.com

Natural sun protection – from Merino wool

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

Aside from being fine, breathable and helping regulate temperature, a real benefit of Merino wool in the Summer is that it provides excellent natural sun protection.
