About organic silk
Our silk comes from silkworms eating biodynamically cultivated organic mulberry leaves. Mulberry silk is the best quality silk, and this biodynamic cultivation not only results in chemical-free silk, but silk that is of better quality, lustre and elasticity.
This means that less processing is needed in the production stages, as the silk is naturally easier to work and is naturally beautiful. In addition, the whole process becomes more sustainable both ecologically and socially.
We order a long way in advance, which means that production is more stable and this stability helps create better standards of living. As Alkena themselves say,
"The careful interrelation with the environment focuses on people and leads to a more caring relationship with the business partners. Fixed prices and supply contracts help to prevent local farmers and workers from being taken advantage of by artificially manipulated prices."
It really makes a difference - thank you for supporting organic and sustainable production - and enjoy the highest quality organic silk.
