Lightweight Plain Knit Jumper in Merino Wool by Disana

Lightweight Plain Knit Jumper in Merino Wool by Disana

An excellent lightweight wool jumper with improved fit

"I have three of these merino wool jumpers for my daughters. The quality is very good and the fit natural. We use these for school (in navy) as well as in everyday life. They have washed fine on a 30C wool wash. The sizing seems generous - the 8-10 is too big for my good-sized 8-year-old - but there was a slight difference in sizing between two colours."

This was washed... had to be careful

This was worn by... 8 and 10 year old girls

Sizing: A little generous

I'd recommend this to a friend.

Is the merino wool not top quality?

"The jumper is beautiful, but it shrank in the first machine wash. I used 30 degrees, gentle cycle, "Method" detergent. Other merino garments (from icebreaker) were washed together with it and remained in their original shape. So I suspect the wool is not high quality merino."

This was washed... shrank dramatically - now size for 4-5 year old

This was worn by... 6-7 year old boy

I wouldn't really recommend this to a friend.

"We're sorry to hear that your lovely jumper shrank.

The machine washability of the fabric is not a reflection of the quality of the merino wool but how it has been treated and processed. We choose manufacturers who don't chemically treat the wool, because chemicals that enhance washability can also damage the natural insulating and dirt resistant properties of the wool, and also because we are an eco-friendly company. We do offer some clothes that are mechanically spun in such a way that makes them machine washable at 40 - see our Smalls range for example - and can even be tumble dried on a low heat.

The manufacturers however still recommend using a wool shampoo which respects wool's natural structure and replenshes oils that can help reduce felting or shrinking. We sell wool shampoos for machine wash cycles here. Whilst I also like Method products as far as I'm aware they do not do a wool detergent which is what I'd recommend for Disana jumpers along with a specialist wool cycle."
