A warm, practical children’s gilet made from 100% South German virgin wool from Merinolandschaf sheep. The softly roughened knitted fabric provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it an excellent extra layer for outdoor play through the cooler months and particularly useful during spring and autumn. The gilet has a slightly extended back for extra coverage and a stand-up collar to help protect against cold winds. A full-length zip makes it easy for children to put on and take off themselves, while two front pockets provide a handy place for cold hands and small outdoor treasures. It can be worn over a wool/silk top in milder weather or used as a warm mid-layer beneath a jacket on colder days. Part of Engel’s limited Locwool collection, it is made in Germany using wool sourced from shepherds in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

Engel locwool is made from 100% virgin wool from South German Merinolandschaf sheep, sourced exclusively from shepherds in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Engel has worked with regional shepherds on the project since 2019, with the aim of restoring value to locally produced wool and supporting regional sheep farming. The wool is 100% mulesing-free, renewable and locally sourced, helping to shorten transport routes and support fair prices for shepherds. Wool from these sheep is naturally breathable and temperature-regulating, and in Engel’s outdoor garments the finished fabric has a wind- and water-repellent outer surface.

Hand wash at up to 30°C using a wool detergent; do not wring or tumble dry. Reshape while damp and dry flat.

Engel was established in the 1960s. From 1982 onwards the company started to concentrate on natural textiles in an exemplary and consistent way. The wool comes from Merino sheep in their natural environment, which are organically farmed and therefore live a healthy and stress-free life. The usage of pesticides is forbidden both on pastures and on animals.
