They have a few tons of leftover wool every year which is too small to sew anything out of. This leaves them with a pile of gorgeous fabric, too useful to be thrown away.
In a unique upcycling project, they tear these scraps back into a fine wool fleece and use them to make disana felt. Thanks to pure merino wool, it is wonderfully soft and supple, but robust and thus makes for a wonderful material.
To start, Disana have begun making shopping bags and baskets out of this material, and we adore them!
Organic recycled felt made from 100% merino wool.
Spot cleaning with gall soap is advised, with as little water as possible (to prevent the wool from losing its shape).
Do not dry the item in the sun; shadow is best, or indoors.
"These are great! (I think I may have trimmed them ever-so-slighly to fit perfectly.) They are soft but warm and still going strong a year later. But, I do take them out in the summer - or leave them in my boots until the winter. I now have warm feet - even standing on cold floors"
