Merino fleeced wool is soft and fluffy to the touch, but wears really well. It's warmer and more windproof than knitted wool and more flexible than boiled wool.
The merino wool fibre used is very fine, soft and springy and is not itchy at all to most skins. The Merino sheep usually thrives in mountainous areas at high altitudes and its wool is naturally brilliant at keeping the body comfortable at a wide range of temperatures.
Relax's organic Merino wool fleece is certified to GOTS organic standards by IVN. All certified organic wool comes from sheep which have been farmed organically and with high animal welfare standards. At Cambridge Baby we always make sure that the wool used in our products come from farms which do not practise mulesing. The organic status refers to all stages of manufacturing process from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.
Wool has many benefits including being anti-bacterial and allowing the body to regulate its own temperature. See the blog for more details.
Reiff's organic Merino wool fleece is a very delicate fabric so care must be taken when washing. Relax recommends hand washing in cold water that is less than 10C.
Use a detergent designed for wool which protects and replenishes wool's natural oils as sold in our fabric care category here.
To hand-wash your organic Merino wool, dilute your wool detergent in a bowl.
Add your woollens to the bowl, gently stirring and squeezing the detergent through. Rinse using cold water
To dry, gently squeeze water out and wrap your wool clothes in a towel to remove the excess water. Air-dry naturally avoiding direct heat. So, hanging on a drying rack over the bath is good, or on a clothes horse.
"Have used throughout late autumn, winter and early spring for our baby who is now a toddler. We had 2 sizes of this sleeping bag because we loved it so much. However, the zip could be made bigger and sturdier (for example like the Disana boiled wool bags), it catches on itself really easily and gets stuck at the most inopportune moments. Saying that, I would still buy again as I haven’t found another sleeping bag that’s as soft, comfortable, good at regulating temperature and with sleeves!"

"This is the third sleeping bag I've bought from Cambridge Baby and it is just as marvellous as the other two. It is lovely and soft, fits well and is perfect for chillier weather."

"This is our second winter season using the sleeping bag. It's very soft, and comfy. The sleeves we're still comfy rolled once last year, and now she's just fitting into it. Her bedroom is below 10degC for a couple months of the year, and I find this is good as a layer, but not very thick and cosy. Definitely need a few other layers on nights cooler than 15degC in my opinion."
This was washed... Hand wash very seldomly, no worries.

"We needed one warm sleeping bag, as baby had a running nose from being not warm enough during the night. This sleeping bag is soft enough for baby's delicate skin (was my worry when ordered) I washed it by hand before use. Yes there was a natural wool smell, but it went when it dried. Washing tip add a vinegar just a little to rinsing water, it softens the wool garments."

"Our 2 years old daughter had her first night without waking up since the moment we put it on! She now sleeps through the night almost every night! She so warm and cosy she loves putting it on. I only wish I would have discovered this product from when she was a tiny baby."

"I have had so many comments and compliments from others on this. It is sooo soft and snugly - everyone wants to hug my baby in it! On the practical side it keeps him wonderfully warm - our house is cold, particularly at night, but in this with its cozy sleeves and lovely woolliness he is warm in his basket wrapped in a woollen shawl over the top of it, but does not overheat if he ends up in bed with us. I nearly didn't buy as it seemed pricey, but no regrets, it's lovely. I bought the three month size when he was two months and though the sleeves were a bit long I just wrinkled them up a bit and that seemed fine. Now he is nearly four months it still fits fine, with still a bit of length to go in the sleeves. It should fit fine till at least six months I think, maybe longer."
