Merino wool is a kind of wool fibre that is very fine, soft and springy and is not itchy at all to most skins. The Merino sheep usually thrives in mountainous areas at high altitudes and its wool is naturally brilliant at keeping the body comfortable at a wide range of temperatures.
Relax's organic Merino wool is certified to GOTS organic standards by IVN. All certified organic wool comes from sheep which have been farmed organically and with high animal welfare standards. The organic status refers to all stages of manufaturing process from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.
The wool is sourced from farms where the animals procreate in a natural way and any kind of change on the animal such as trimming the tail or mulesing are forbidden. In short – the sheep live a happy life!
Wool (and thus Merino wool) has many benefits including being anti-bacterial and allowing the body to regulate its own temperature. See the blog for more details.
Reiff's organic Merino wool is a very delicate fabric so care must be taken when washing. Relax recommends hand washing in cold water that is less than 10oc.
Use a detergent designed for wool which protects and repenishes wool's natural oils as sold in our fabric care category here.
To hand-wash your organic Merino wool, dilute your wool detergent in a bowl.
Add your woollens to the bowl, gently stirring and squeezing the detergent through. Rinse using cold water
To dry, gently squeeze water out and wrap your wool clothes in a towel to remove the excess water. Air-dry naturally avoiding direct heat. So, hanging on a drying rack over the bath is good, or on a clothes horse.
"I love this brand. The kimono style is very cute and we get many compliments as babies look very sweet in this. It was good price and good quality. I bought the Disana wool wash and I wash it in the machine without spinning and it works great"

"I got a cotton one of these in Germany for my daughter a few years ago and then bought this one for my son, because I was so pleased with the cotton version but wanted something warmer. It's perfect, hides small stains, can be worn for at least 15 months as it's a refreshingly generous fit, the colours are lovely (both green and blue stripes and the red and orange). He wears it both as a long-sleeved T-Shirt when it's warmer, and as a top layer."
This was worn by... My tall one year old
"Bought the green/blue stripe for my girl but it was a little big so sized down to the 9-18 month old in natural/grey and it fits her well (she's nearly 21 months, slim and very tall and there's probably a bit of use in it yet) Love the colours, it's very soft and comfortable and it looks smart (she's had compliments on it)"
This was washed... washed several times in a machine on wool/silk wash and it's fine

"Bought this jumper in plum/berry stripe for my 18 months old daughter. It keeps her toasty warm both indoors and out. She wears it all the time and it still looks like new. Like all merino clothes, it seems to be dirt resistant. I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you, Cambridge Baby."
