All certified organic wool comes from sheep which have been farmed organically and with high animal welfare standards. At Cambridge Baby we always make sure that no wool comes from farms which practise mulesing.
Wool has many benefits:
In this way, wool is a wonderful temperature-regulator, slowing down the effects of changes of temperature and helping prevent sweatiness by absorbing moisture and releasing it in response to the environment. This makes it a wonderful fabric for socks and tights for the whole family, as well as for athletes, cyclists, skiers and mountain-climbers. It's naturally high-tec and can't be beaten by synthetics!
Find out more about the properties of wool in our blog.
Dilute your wool detergent in cool water (max 30oc which will feel luke-warm) in a bowl. For heavily-soiled areas, use a little gall soap on your woollens first, testing on an inconspicuous area first.
Add your woollens to the bowl, gently stirring and squeezing the detergent through. Rinse using water at the same temperature, otherwise your wool will be subjected to "shock" and might felt up.
To dry, gently squeeze water out and wrap your wool clothes in a towel to remove the excess water.
Air-dry naturally avoiding direct heat. So, hanging on a drying rack over the bath is good, or on a clothes horse, or flat on a dry terry towel.
Re-shape while damp.

"Really lovely warm socks that need very little washing. Sounds a bit grim but they simply don’t smell and only need periodic airing on the line. Bobble a bit when new, as should be expected."
"They look beautiful as well as being very warm and are perfect on walks in my boots."
This was washed... I always hand wash these socks as they can shrink in washing machine wash.,
"I wanted socks that would be warm but not cramp my feet as I have recently moved to barefoot footwear. It absolutely fits the bill, keeps my feet snuggly ( barefoot shoes have thinner soles) and warms my lower leg which I like . I have worn them everyday for a few weeks and not needed to wash as the wool sits well and any smell vanishes . Perfect for autumn through winter"
This was worn by... Me, 62 year old female
"Wore these socks almost constantly in the winter months, mostly in the house in slippers but also in boots. I keep them on at bedtime as I get terrible cramp when my feet are cold and these socks really help. Keep my feet warm but never sweaty and not too tight. However, they’ve started to wear through on the heel and husband (who doesn’t wear slippers) had holes in his after a few months."
This was washed... Even when worn all the time, they never smell
This was worn by... Myself and my husband (don’t worry we had a pair each)
